About Us
Founder’s Story
Our lab was founded in 1995 by Dr. Richard Lee, the head of Medical Genetics at Good Samaritan Hospital. Dr. Lee recognized the powerful answers that DNA testing could provide about a person’s identity and biological relationships. But DNA testing was complicated and expensive – making it inaccessible to those who needed it most.
So Dr. Lee set out on a mission:
to make quality DNA testing services accessible to everyone.

Lab Opens to the Public
We opened our doors to the public in 1995, in a small 2,000-square-foot lab just north of Cincinnati, Ohio – marking the start of a new era in DNA testing. Over the next 25 years, our lab and offices grew to over 85,000 square feet and over 200 employees at the original US Headquarters.
Today, the Peekaboo lab is the most trusted name in DNA testing worldwide.

Our Team
Jason Judd
President & CEO
Jason Judd serves as President of DDC. Jason is a strategic business leader in Sales and Operations and eCommerce. Jason leverages data driven insights to deliver superior results, profitable growth strategies and high-performance teams. He has significant experience in creating value through diverse selling channels, sales force effectiveness, and commercial support services. Jason has a deep background and passion for excellence in delivering quality products to the marketplace in a cost effective and predictable way. Jason has successfully led the company through transformations of performance via systems and culture and employs efficient, compliant, business solutions to ensure the successful development of management teams and broad ranging infrastructure systems. Prior to joining DDC in 2007, Jason owned and operated a private counseling practice and Jason managed the Crisis Counseling unit at the Mental Health & Recovery Services of Warren County, Ohio.
Purlen Muhleman
Vice President of Finance & Accounting
Purlen Muhleman is a Vice President of Finance with more than 20 years of experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, leading finance organizations through growth, transformation, and complex market environments. She currently oversees accounting, financial reporting, planning, and analysis for DNA Diagnostics Center, partnering closely with executive leadership to drive profitability, support M&A activity, and successfully lead companies through post‑acquisition integration.
Throughout her career, Purlen has led multiple financial systems and reporting integrations, including ERP, EPM, and BI platforms such as Oracle NetSuite and Hyperion. Known for modernizing finance infrastructures, she consistently improves efficiency, transparency, and insight while delivering measurable financial results.
Previously, Purlen served as Vice President of Finance at F+W Media, where she oversaw FP&A and financial reporting for a $125M, multi‑vertical media organization and partnered closely with executive leadership, the Board, and lenders on strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and divestitures. Earlier in her career at Cengage Learning, she progressed through multiple leadership roles, managing large‑scale FP&A, digital investment governance, KPI development, and global teams.
John Peterson
Laboratory Director
John Peterson, PhD, serves as the Laboratory Director at DNA Diagnostics Center (DDC) and is responsible for all laboratory, technical, and quality-related operations at DDC. With more than 23 years of experience in Paternity, Relationship, and Forensic DNA testing, Dr. Peterson oversees testing accuracy, data integrity, and compliance with all applicable accreditation standards.
Dr. Peterson holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Wright State University in Dayton, OH. From 2007 to 2012, Dr. Peterson served as a Forensic Scientist at the Marion County Forensic Services Agency in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he performed forensic DNA analysis and provided expert witness testimony. He is a trained AABB Assessor and has served on both the AABB Relationship Testing Accreditation and Standards Committees. Dr. Peterson maintains professional affiliations with the AABB, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), and the International Society for Forensic Genetics (ISFG).
